Zed Nelson lives in London, working through the photographic agency Morgan Lockyer. Nelson's work has been published extensively both in the UK and worldwide.

From the war in Sierra Leone, to back-stage with the Rolling Stones, Nelson's work is challenging and diverse, but always about people and the world we have made for ourselves. From iconic portraits to fly-on-the-wall reportage, Zed Nelson's images form a compelling picture of life today.

'Gun Nation', a disturbing reflection on America's obsession with the gun, is one of Nelson's most important projects to date. It is regarded by many as the definitive body of work on the subject.

'Gun Nation' has been published in twelve countries, won First Prize in the 1998 World Press Photo Competition, was awarded the 1998 Visa d'Or for Best Magazine Feature of the Year at the International Festival of Photojournalism, France, and was awarded the prestigious Alfred Eisenstadt Award for photojournalism in the USA (Life Magazine / Columbia University 1999). Nelson also won first prize in the 1999 Nikon Awards (UK).

'Gun Nation' has been screened (with interview appearances by Zed Nelson) on Channel 4 News, BBC and Sky news (UK), Good Morning America and The Charlie Rose Show (USA).

Recent assignments have been published in the UK Sunday Times Magazine, Observer LIFE, GQ , Esquire, TIME Magazine (USA), LIFE Magazine (USA), and Stern magazine (Germany).

Nelson's images of the political and social breakdown and resulting famine of Somalia, September 1992, were the first to make front-page news in the UK.

Assignments have continued to be demanding and diverse: the French Foreign Legion, the forgotten war in Afghanistan, post-war elections in El Salvador, the boom in nosejobs in Iran, and the Ku Klux Klan, USA. Nelson survived a machine-gun ambush in Afghanistan, in which his colleague and interpreter were both shot.

Amongst his portraits, Nelson's sitters have included such notables as Fidel Castro of Cuba, Margaret Thatcher, and Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones. Nelson has lectured on photography at various universities and colleges in the UK and the USA.

Nelson's work has been exhibited in Britain at National Portrait Gallery, Victoria & Albert Museum, and Royal Festival Hall. He has had solo shows at Newseum – New York, Oksnehallen –Copenhagen, Westzone Gallery – London, and the AoP Gallery – London.
