Throughout his career as a photojournalist Ron Haviv has confronted risk in order to bring our attention to our less fortunate neighbors. He has covered conflict in Latin America and the Caribbean, crisis in Africa, the Gulf War, fighting in Russia and conflict in the Balkans. In the 21st century he has documented the aftermath of September 11th , the war in Afghanistan and the overthrow of Saddam Hussein in Iraq.

Haviv is a co-founder of the VII agency and is a contract photographer for Newsweek. His work is widely published by magazines throughout the world including German Geo, Stern, Paris Match and the New York Times Magazine.

His photographs have earned him several World Press, Picture of the Year and Overseas Press Club awards and the Leica Medal of Excellence. His work has been exhibited at many museums and galleries including the United Nations and The Council on Foreign Relations. He has contributed to numerous books, and regularly lectures at universities and seminars.

Blood and Honey: A Balkan War Journal, his first book is the result of ten years of Haviv's work in the Balkans. Afghanistan: On the Road to Kabul about the American war in Afghanistan was released in 2002.

Films about Ron Haviv’s work include National Geographic Explorer’s documentary, Freelance in a World of Risk, Vivisect that explores Serbian reaction to the Blood and Honey exhibit and Eyes of the World, examining the act of witnessing war.
